Black Girl Vitamins Debuts 'The Visit,' A Short Film Exploring How Black Women Go Unheard In Healthcare

A new short film titled "The Visit" is drawing attention to the ways Black women are often dismissed or ignored in medical settings. The project was released by Black Girl Vitamins, a wellness brand based in Chicago, during Black Maternal Mental Health Week.

The film centers on a Black woman's experience inside a doctor's office, where her symptoms are downplayed and her concerns are brushed aside. It aims to highlight the systemic failures that contribute to stark racial disparities in maternal health outcomes. The brand's founders say the story reflects a reality that many Black women face not just during pregnancy, but across all areas of healthcare.

"The Visit" is part of a broader effort to push for change in how medical professionals listen to and treat Black patients. Studies have long shown that Black women are more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, and that their pain is often undertreated. By putting this issue into a short film, the brand hopes to spark conversations that lead to better training, policy changes, and more respectful care.

The release also aligns with a growing movement of Black-owned wellness brands addressing health equity through storytelling and community education.
