ILGA World has collaborated with ten member organizations to address critical health issues affecting LGBTI racialized groups. This initiative aims to engage with the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and emphasize the unique challenges these communities face in accessing healthcare.
The collaboration highlights that LGBTI racialized individuals often encounter systemic barriers that hinder their right to health. Discrimination, stigma, and socio-economic disparities contribute to significant health disparities within these populations. By utilizing CERD's General Recommendation No. 37, the organizations seek to advocate for specific measures that can improve health outcomes and ensure equitable access to healthcare services.
The engagement with the CERD Committee is a crucial step toward acknowledging the intersectionality of race and sexual orientation in health policies. This effort not only seeks to elevate the voices of marginalized groups but also aims to influence international human rights frameworks to promote inclusivity and equality in health rights for all.
