SGMC Health has announced the appointment of John Jones as the new Director of Patient Support and Transportation Services. In this system-wide leadership role, Jones will oversee the coordination and management of non-clinical patient assistance programs as well as the transport logistics that move patients between departments and facilities.
Jones brings more than a decade of experience in healthcare operations and patient flow management to the position. His background includes work in process improvement and team leadership, which SGMC Health officials say will be critical in streamlining how patients access support services and move through the health system. The role covers everything from wheelchair transport and discharge assistance to the scheduling of inter-facility shuttles.
According to a spokesperson, the health system created the director-level position to centralize oversight of these functions, which had previously been handled by separate departments. The goal is to reduce wait times and improve the overall patient experience. Jones is expected to work closely with nursing leadership, emergency department staff, and outpatient clinic managers to identify bottlenecks and implement more efficient routing.
Jones said he is looking forward to building a cohesive team that puts patient comfort first. He noted that transportation and support services are often the first and last points of contact a patient has with the hospital, making them a vital part of the care journey. No additional details about his start date or specific initiatives were released.
