A public health alert has been issued for certain ravioli products sold at Costco stores in Maryland and New Jersey. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the alert after discovering that some packages contained the wrong product.
The affected items are 32-ounce plastic bag packages labeled as Giovanni Rana RANA Rustic Beef Sauce & Creamy Burrata Cheese Ravioli. However, the bags actually contained shrimp ravioli in lobster sauce. This is a problem because the shrimp and lobster product is a known allergen that is not declared on the package label. People with shellfish allergies could have a serious or even life-threatening reaction if they eat the mislabeled ravioli.
The products were sold at Costco locations in Maryland and New Jersey. The packages have a "BEST BY" date of 08/10/2025 and a lot code of L2629E 10:52. They were produced on August 10, 2024. The FSIS says the issue was discovered after a consumer complaint led to a review of the product.
No confirmed allergic reactions have been reported so far. Consumers who bought the mislabeled ravioli are urged not to eat it. They should either throw it away or return it to the store for a refund. Anyone concerned about an allergic reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
