Penn State Health notifies public of potential measles exposure at Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital

Penn State Health has issued a public notice about a possible measles exposure at Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital. The warning is meant for anyone who was in the facility during a specific time window, though officials have not released the exact dates or locations within the hospital where the exposure may have occurred.

The health system says the potential exposure is tied to a confirmed case of measles, and they are working with local public health authorities to identify anyone who might have been in contact with the infected individual. Measles is highly contagious and can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves a room. Symptoms typically appear seven to fourteen days after exposure and include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic rash that spreads from the face downward.

Anyone who was at the hospital during the identified period and is unvaccinated, or who has not had measles in the past, is urged to watch for symptoms and contact a healthcare provider if they develop. People who are fully vaccinated or who have had measles previously are considered protected. Infants, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk and should be especially cautious.

Penn State Health advises that anyone who believes they were exposed should call ahead before visiting a doctor's office or emergency room to avoid spreading the virus to others. The hospital is not currently restricting visitors, but they are asking the public to remain vigilant and follow standard infection control measures.
