Metro Health’s Baby Buggy Walk and Health Expo spotlights infant mortality

Families gathered Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Ramon V. Quintero Community Center for the 13th Annual Baby Buggy Walk in the Park and Health Expo. The event, organized by Metro Health, aimed to raise awareness about infant mortality and provide resources to support healthy pregnancies and births.

Participants pushed strollers along a designated route, joining neighbors and local organizations in a shared effort to draw attention to a persistent public health issue. The walk served as both a memorial and a call to action, honoring infants lost while highlighting steps families can take to improve outcomes.

The health expo featured booths staffed by medical professionals, community groups, and social service agencies. Attendees received information on prenatal care, safe sleep practices, breastfeeding support, and access to insurance coverage. Several providers offered free health screenings and consultations on site.

Organizers said the event also creates a space for parents to connect with others who have experienced loss. Counselors and peer support volunteers were available throughout the day.

Metro Health officials noted that infant mortality rates remain a concern in many communities, particularly among underserved populations. They stressed that early and consistent prenatal care, education, and community support play critical roles in reducing risk.

The annual walk continues to grow, drawing hundreds of participants each year. Organizers hope the momentum leads to lasting improvements in maternal and infant health across the region.
