Law Enforcement Honors Dr. John Howard and the World Trade Center Health Program Team With ‘Service Above Self’ Award on 9/11

The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Foundation, working alongside the Police Unity Tour and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, has announced that the World Trade Center Health Program will receive the Service Above Self award. The recognition comes as the nation approaches the twenty fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

The award honors Dr. John Howard and the entire World Trade Center Health Program team for their long standing commitment to the thousands of responders, survivors, and workers who continue to face serious health conditions linked to exposure at Ground Zero and the surrounding areas. For years, the program has provided monitoring, treatment, and support to people whose illnesses emerged long after the initial rescue and recovery efforts ended.

Organizers said the honor reflects a simple but powerful idea. Service does not stop when the immediate crisis fades. The medical staff, researchers, and administrators who keep the program running have shown that principle through their daily work, often with little public attention.

The ceremony is expected to bring together law enforcement members, health professionals, and families of those affected. Supporters say the award is not only about remembering what happened on 9/11 but also about acknowledging the ongoing duty owed to those who answered the call and are still paying a price for it.
