Is that food really made with 100% avocado oil? Likely not

Is that food really made with 100% avocado oil? Likely not

A recent study has cast doubt on the authenticity of many food products marketed as being made with 100% avocado oil. Researchers found that a significant number of these items, which often carry a higher price tag due to the oil's perceived health benefits, may not contain the pure ingredient consumers expect. The investigation looked at a range of products, including cooking oils, salad dressings, and mayonnaise, and tested their fatty acid profiles against what should be present in genuine avocado oil.

The results were troubling. Many samples showed signs of being cut with cheaper oils, such as soybean, sunflower, or canola oil. In some cases, the primary oil in the bottle was not avocado at all. This means shoppers paying a premium for what they believe is a heart-healthy, monounsaturated fat source might be getting a blend of less expensive, and potentially less beneficial, oils. The study highlights a gap in regulation and testing, where the label "100% avocado oil" is not always backed by rigorous verification. For consumers, the takeaway is clear: look for products from reputable brands that offer third-party testing or certification, as the label alone may not guarantee the purity of the oil inside.
