Free Philadelphia Event Aims to Help Residents Understand Kidney Risks

People living with diabetes or high blood pressure often focus on managing their daily symptoms, but these conditions can quietly damage the kidneys over time. A free symposium in Philadelphia is designed to help residents understand that connection and take action before serious problems develop.

The National Kidney Foundation will host the event on Nov. 10 at Independence Blue Cross. Organizers say the goal is to make kidney health easier to understand for people who may not realize they are at risk. Chronic kidney disease often develops slowly and without obvious warning signs, so many people do not know they have it until the damage is advanced.

The symposium will cover what chronic kidney disease is, how it is detected and what steps can slow its progress. Speakers will discuss prevention strategies, including controlling blood sugar and blood pressure, staying active and making informed food choices. A session on nutrition will offer practical guidance for eating well while protecting kidney function.

Attendees will also learn about community health resources available in Philadelphia, from screening programs to support services. Organizers say the event is open to patients, caregivers and anyone who wants to learn more about keeping their kidneys healthy. Registration is free, and participants are encouraged to bring questions for the medical professionals leading the sessions.
