The site sits about 2.5 miles north of Franciscan Health Michigan City, which is located at U.S. 421 and Interstate 94. According to the healthcare ministry, the new building supports its regional approach to delivering care and extends its services further into the community.
The facility is expected to house more than 45 physicians along with cost-effective imaging services and additional clinical space. By reusing an existing retail structure, the project aims to bring medical services closer to residents while making use of a property that has sat largely vacant since the mall closed.
Tonn and Blank Construction is partnering with Franciscan Health on the development. The renovation represents one of the larger redevelopment efforts at the former mall site, which has drawn interest in recent years as local officials look for new uses for the property. Further details on construction timing and the range of services planned for the building have not been announced.
