DHR Health Introduces Nurse-Family Partnership for First-Time Mothers

The program has been available at the hospital since 2012 and continues to provide structured assistance to families navigating the early stages of parenthood.

The Nurse-Family Partnership pairs registered nurses with expectant mothers, beginning early in pregnancy and continuing through the child's second birthday. Nurses visit homes regularly to offer guidance on prenatal care, infant development, breastfeeding, and safe sleep practices. They also help mothers set personal goals related to education, employment, and family stability.

Organizers say the program is built on decades of research showing that consistent nurse home visits improve pregnancy outcomes, reduce child abuse and neglect, and boost school readiness. Mothers enrolled in the initiative receive practical support tailored to their individual circumstances, from managing stress to finding community resources.

Eligibility depends on income thresholds and whether the mother is expecting her first child. Those who qualify pay nothing to participate. The hospital encourages interested families to reach out early in pregnancy to take full advantage of the services offered.
