RALEIGH, N.C. -- The annual Duke Hospice Gala brought together community leaders, healthcare advocates, and philanthropists this past weekend, raising a record-breaking sum to support end-of-life care services across the region. Held at the Raleigh Convention Center, the black-tie event featured a seated dinner, live entertainment, and a silent auction that drew enthusiastic bidding from the crowd of over 500 attendees.
Organizers reported that the evening's proceeds exceeded initial projections, with funds earmarked for expanding in-home hospice support, grief counseling programs, and specialized training for medical staff. "This community never ceases to amaze me with its generosity," said one event coordinator during the closing remarks. "Every dollar raised here directly touches families during their most vulnerable moments."
The gala also honored several longtime volunteers and medical professionals who have dedicated decades to the hospice mission. A poignant video presentation highlighted patient stories, underscoring the importance of compassionate care at the end of life. Local musicians performed throughout the evening, and a live auction featured items such as vacation packages and original artwork donated by regional artists.
The Duke Hospice program, part of Duke Health, serves thousands of patients annually across North Carolina. The funds from this year's gala are expected to help bridge gaps in insurance coverage and provide services that are not always reimbursed by Medicare or private insurers. Organizers have already begun planning next year's event, which is set to return to the same venue.
